A good tempered glass screen protector is cut for your exact phone model, covers the screen edge to edge without fighting your case, and comes with a way to line it up so dust and bubbles don't get trapped. Ignore big hardness claims; fit and installation decide whether you're happy with it a month later. Below, we explain what to check before you buy and how to fit one at home in a few minutes.
What should you check before buying a tempered glass screen protector?
Five things matter more than the words on the box:
- Exact model fit. Phones that look alike often have different screen sizes and corner shapes. A guard made for one model can sit off the edges or leave a gap on another. Check your model in Settings before you order.
- Coverage and edges. An edge-to-edge guard covers more of the display. A slightly curved or rounded edge feels smoother under your thumb and is less likely to catch on a pocket.
- Case-friendly cut. If the guard reaches too far, a snug case can push its edge up, which lets dust in and makes it lift. Look for a guard that says it works with cases.
- Cut-outs and sensors. The earpiece, front camera and any in-screen fingerprint sensor need to work through or around the glass.
- An install aid. An alignment frame or tray helps more than anything else in the box. Without one, most bubbles and crooked fits come from placing the glass by hand.

What does 9H hardness actually mean?
Almost every glass guard says "9H". This is a pencil hardness grade, not a Mohs mineral rating. In the pencil test (ASTM D3363), pencil leads of rising hardness are pushed across a coated surface, and the grade is the hardest pencil that doesn't mark it (BGR; ASTM).
So 9H tells you the surface resists light, everyday scratches. It does not mean the glass is as hard as a diamond, and it doesn't measure how well the guard handles a drop. Harder grit such as sand can still scratch tempered glass, and a hard fall can still crack it (BGR). That's its job: a cracked guard costs far less than a cracked display.
Do screen protectors work with in-display fingerprint sensors?
They can, but the guard has to be made for your phone's sensor. Many Samsung Galaxy flagships use an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor under the screen, and a guard that isn't designed for it can make unlocking slow or unreliable. Two habits help:
- Buy a guard that says it supports fingerprint unlock on your exact model.
- Re-register your fingerprints after fitting the guard. Delete the old ones and add them again with the glass on, so the phone learns your finger through the new layer.
If unlock still fails, check for a bubble or speck of dust right over the sensor area. That spot needs the cleanest contact on the whole screen.

How to install a tempered glass screen protector without bubbles
Most failed installs come from dust, not from the glass. Work in a clean, still room, switch off the fan, and follow these steps:
- Wash and dry your hands, then switch the phone off so stray taps don't matter.
- Clean the screen. Wipe it with a soft, lint-free cloth. Apple advises against household cleaners, sprays and abrasives on the screen, as they can wear down its oil-resistant coating (Apple Support).
- Lift off the dust. Press the dust-removal sticker over the whole screen, paying extra attention to the edges and the earpiece.
- Align, don't eyeball. Place the phone in the alignment frame or tray, peel the backing from the glass and lower it in using the guides. Don't touch the sticky side.
- Press from the centre out. Press the middle and let the glass settle by itself, then push any small bubbles towards the nearest edge with the cloth.

Small air bubbles with nothing under them can usually be pushed out to the edge. A bubble with a dust speck in the middle won't go away by itself. Lift that corner gently with the dust sticker, dab the speck off, and lay the glass back down.
Quick checklist before you order
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Exact phone model in the title | Lookalike models have different screen sizes |
| Edge-to-edge, case-friendly cut | Full coverage without the case pushing the edge up |
| Fingerprint unlock support (Android) | In-screen sensors need a compatible guard |
| Alignment frame or tray in the box | Straight fit, fewer bubbles and less dust |
| Oil-resistant top coating | Fingerprints and smudges wipe off more easily |
| Pack size | A spare guard means you're covered if the first one cracks |

It has edge-to-edge borderless HD clear glass rated 9H, a curved edge designed to work with most thin and mid-profile cases, and a dust mesh built into the earpiece cut-out. FAQ
Is a tempered glass screen protector better than a plastic film?
Glass feels closer to the phone's own screen and resists everyday scratches better than thin plastic film. Film is thinner and won't crack, but it feels less like the original screen.
Will a 9H guard stop all scratches?
No. 9H is a pencil hardness grade. Sand and other hard grit can still scratch glass, so keep your phone away from keys and loose change in the same pocket.
Should I replace a cracked screen protector?
Yes. A cracked guard has done its job, but sharp edges can cut fingers and dust gets in under the crack. Replace it soon.
Can I use a case with a full-coverage guard?
Usually, yes. Choose a guard described as case-friendly, and check that your case's lip doesn't press on the edge of the glass.
